Atlanta Forest School

Wonder and play in wild spaces ● Deep nature connection ● Outdoors for all

In wonder and reflection, our hearts find contentment.

We commit to wonder and play in wilderness spaces.

We believe children are valued members of our communities, and that children learn best through play and experience. We base our work on principles of emergent play, social-emotional learning, and nature connection. Our forest mentors design our programming to amplify children’s innate sense of wonder and resilience as we explore the wild spaces tucked inside the Atlanta metro area.

We foster deep nature connection between children and the land.

Through extended uninterrupted free play and mentoring in wild spaces, we afford children the time and opportunity to develop relationships with nature, including the local plants and wildlife. We acknowledge our presence on land historically stewarded by the Muskogee people, and we work to holistically root ourselves and find our place within the balance of the living world.

We believe opportunities in nature should be accessible for all.

With a strong focus on education equity, we strive to provide children of diverse backgrounds opportunities in nature. Our goal is to create accessible and culturally relevant nature programming for the many communities in the Atlanta region. We work to understand the barriers to participation, build relationships with leaders in these communities, and strategize ways to increase access and engagement with nature-based programming.
